I made you sad today; and in the knowing of that single thing, my own heart was torn in two.
I never wanted to be the source of any frown upon your face or any sadness in your soul.
I hurt you. That one thing which I had endeavored never to do, and still it happened.
If I could turn back time or change the past, without question I would do things differently.
If only the wisdom of the future would visit us in the present as we face the choices of today.
There are no words that will erase what I have done from your heart or your mind.
There is no action I can take to undo what I have brought about.
I can only look into your tear-filled eyes and see the broken state of your soul.
Promises do not correct the wrong-doings of my life, nor do they replace the trust that has been torn asunder.
But where there is love, there can be forgiveness.
Forgiveness and true repentance are the only healing balms in the world that can mend the divide between us.
When you look into my eyes, do you see that my heart has broken too?
When I speak to you, do you hear the cracking of my spirit in every word I whisper?
Ever so slowly I reach out my hand to you and pray that you will take it in your own.
Here I am, not perfect, not shining and new, but wiser and sincere, offering you all that I have and all that I am.
Do you accept? (Even though I am not perfect as you once thought me to be?)
